This was posted by the MSM so in addition to what was stated in the title they also had a so-called expert to push the narrative that people should not have the right to privacy in their medical information (such as vaccine status). That seems to be the direction they want things to go. For the government to be able to tell you what to do (which they now can in Canada per the lockdowns) and they now also want to have the right to your medical information (such as vaccination status). More civil rights keep being eroded daily.
nope, in Canada our medical history and information is 100% private, and off limits to everyone - including the government. It's protected in our Charter. Our Charter cannot be changed / amended / added to by the government just because they want to. That's why they are our Chartered Rights and Freedoms.
Our province (NB) announced yesterday there will be no covid pass be implemented in our province.
And I hate to inform you, but the only province that did an actual , real lockdown was Ontario. Here in NB, the only thing that actually closed were bowling alleys and movie theatres. Everything else was open in some way or another.
I could never not go to Tim's / McDicks / the mall / hardware stores. I have my own drywall / taping / painting business. I don't do commercial - residential only. I haven't had to stop working, nobody's asked me about my vax status, nobody's asked me to wear a mask in their house. Don't believe everything you see about Canada from American sources.
This is wrong. Quebec's curfew was far more restrictive, and more heavily enforced....
Also the charter dont mean anything so long as the notwithstanding clause is there, since it allows government to trample rights anytime.
There is a section in the Charter that specifically states an "emergency" or "quarantine" act do not over ride anything in the Charter. Pretty sure that's under section 6(?) - our rights in relation to travelling INTO and ACROSS our country as a legal citizen of Canada.
And I believe it's section 14 of the quarantine act states something along the lines of "nothing in this act can over ride the Charter of Rights and Freedoms..." I'd have to dig out my books to quote it specifically.
Because MOST Canadians don't even know what our Charter says, and what it allows the government to NOT do, it gives the gov't free reign to say and do whatever in the name of "your safety".
You don't have to deal with gov't direct. You deal with cops and 'peace officers'. These people have very, VERY little actual legal training. Most cops can't even tell you how many Chartered Rights there are, or what any of them even say.
No cop is going to arrest you for not wearing a mask. No cop is going to arrest you because you're not vaccinated. The government of Canada can't MAKE you take a vaccine. Nobodygetting covid tickets is #1 having to pay #2 actually being charged with a crime. They get thrown out in court due to our Charter, look it up.
You CAN sue whoever is restricting your rights, as a legal Canadian citizen, from travelling into or across the country, or purchasing goods on Canadian land with Canadian currency. Those things are GUARANTEED protections under our Charter.
Your medical history is Charter protected. Not even the government has access to your medical file unless you are dead.
There's no such thing as a non withstanding clause in relation to our Charter. The federal governing party cannot change or amend the Charter.

The notwithstanding clause is a dagger pointed at the heart of our fundamental freedoms, and it should be abolished. Although it does not apply to the whole Charter of Rights, it does apply to a very large number of the rights and freedoms otherwise guaranteed. …
Clearly, then, it gives federal and provincial legislators very wide powers to do as they see fit in limiting or denying those rights and freedoms. The Charter would not have protected the Japanese-Canadians who were forcibly interned during World War II. Nor will it protect anyone advocating an unpopular cause today.
Perhaps none of our legislatures will use the notwithstanding clause again. But it is there. And if this dagger is flung, the courts will be as powerless to protect our rights as they were before there was a Charter of Rights.49
Finally, it is entirely possible to amend the Charter.
Most amendments can be passed only if identical resolutions are adopted by the House of Commons, the Senate and two-thirds or more of the provincial legislative assemblies representing at least 50 per cent of the national population.
A few comments:
CTV news is not an American source. Most provinces had some level of lockdowns (Quebec, Ontario, Alberta). I know this because I live in Ontario and they locked down almost everything for no good reason (including the hardware stores, curbside pickup only). Quebec had curfews for even longer than Ontario was locked down.
In Canada, they threw at least 2 pastors in jail because they refused to stop preaching. I'm not sure if the Charter of Rights and Freedoms has anything about religious freedoms, but they certainly trampled over it if it does.
3.The point is that the medical information is private right now but watch the video and see what they want to happen. They have been running over the Charter left right and center. I would not put it past them to make a push in this area.
I have a hard time believing that those border hotel/jails they setup are inline with the Charter, but they did it anyways. Those hotels serve no function as they require people entering Canada to quarantine at home for 2 weeks regardless of the hotels so they are just a way of punishing people for doing something which I suspect the Charter says is allowed (to leave and re-enter Canada, freedom of movement).
In many parts of Ontario, especially bigger cities, it's not hard to spot people in traffic who are alone in their cars but wearing masks. It's common enough where it does not seem like they just forgot to take them off.
I have not had any vax related interactions with people but given that Ontario has been completely locked down until a little over 1 month ago, I haven't had barely any interactions with people in Ontario for the last 3-4 months. However, given how much some people in Canada believe everything in the MSM, you should not be surprised if they buy all the lies that come out about the vaccines.
I'd have to conclude that you're in better part of Canada than I am. However, I would not take that for granted. Our so-called Conservative government in Ontario locked the whole province down even as certain areas had 0 COVID cases (the less populated ones, he locked them down as well) and ERs were are record low capacities. It seems like the lockdowns were only done for political purposes because there was no data that even pointed to the virus being an issue.
Hate picking user names also, and passwords, especially passwords. Like you try to get in, and the site says it has been xx days and you have to change your pwd. Like now, on the spot, or you can't get in to conduct the business that is on your mind.
Like the racist remarks on receipts. Turned out falls. Baked the cake bigot, had to go to 10 bakeries before finding one that refused.
