Oh wow I just finished Dexter season 1 last night.

Spoilers: Dexter is a "good" serial killer who only kills other killers. This season was about another serial killer (Dexter's brother) draining his victims' body completely of blood. Dex's brother is trying to get Dexter to give up his humanity aka soul and become a serial killer with no rules. I just connected the symbolism to it.
