Get up! Awaken you who have fallen asleep! Now is the time we will finally see what we have longed for, what we all knew was coming, though it strained our patience through a long and desperate night.
Nessun Dorma! No one sleep! The stars that trembled with love and hope are vanishing because the dawn is breaking with victory!
Awake! Get up and shout the words of the prophets, and the earth will sing them with us! Make the air vibrate with the frequency of renewed life and love! Make the ground shake with the voice of triumph!
“NO ONE MUST SLEEP! AWAKEN YOU PEOPLE! GET UP AND SEE WHAT GOD HAS DONE!”
My excitement wouldn’t let me keep this in. It has been rolling around inside me all day, and I would surely have burst if I didn’t let it out in some way that doesn’t alarm the neighbors. Something has shifted, and I can feel it. There is major excitement in the air, as if the very earth itself has begun to rejoice. Don’t say tomorrow, tomorrow. It is happening today, right now, and I know that I know it in spite of anything I my eyes can see. Believe it with me. Open your eyes to see the good future God has prepared for you, the future that has arrived this very day.
(Nessun Dorma is a prophetic song, by the way, whether Puccini knew it or not.)
I think I ought to book myself into the opticians. I was fooled by the exclamation mark.
I thought it said: "Nessun Doormat" - as in no-one shall be downtrodden!
