No matter how bad the odds are that their children are alive, the parents of actual missing children never, and I mean never, refer to their children in the past tense. In fact, this instinct is so hard wired into human behavior, that if we start hearing someone refer to their missing child in the past tense, we move into the "accidents happen... we understand... just show us where the body is" phase.
The McCann's, on the other hand, were already referring to her in the past tense in the very first interview.
They know exactly what happened to her.
In fact, in one of their interviews, they even tell us what happened to her. The interviewer asks them a question about how they would react to people who say they covered up her death. The father responds with something along the lines of "That's ridiculous... I mean, if she had an accident and fell and died, then where would we have buried the body? It's absurd"
So she had an accident that killed her, that was probably at least partially the parents fault, and they panicked and hid her body.
More nefarious than two parent-doctors most likely used prescription drugs to make their toddler child drowsy while they went out and partied, then returned to find that she'd slipped and died, then they hid her body so they wouldn't lose their medical licenses and go to prison?
I mean, I'd call that pretty nefarious.
But if you're on the "Tony Podesta molested and killed her" train, then I can't really help you. Out of the dozens of scenarios I've seen and considered, that one is, by a huge margin, the least likely.
They didn't even bother to stay in Portugal, they flew straight to the UK and set up a go fund me online plea.
The Government gave them tens of thousands of pounds through this account slapped a D notice onto the press not to report anything negative and then buried the official report on them until 2087.

They use "we dont want the public to get scared" as a way to say "we want to protect the cabals' reputation still".
