FWIW, I will throw in that f you sincerely apply yourself over those two years, I would argue that it will be the two years spent at college that are more likely to be a waste of your life.
I spent four years learning and doing electronics in the military before deciding to get a degree in electrical engineering. Never considered that path before. The pause was very beneficial for me (though two year would have been enough). Of course, I don't recommend our military to anyone at this time.
A growing number of employers aren't impressed with college degrees these days, and would rather train someone. You get some time to mature and discover your true desires, get a paycheck, and pick up a skill. You can return to academia whenever you like.
