I have a john deere gator that seems to need a new battery every year and has a radiator leak in the cooling system. So I have to deal with that.
I have a boat with an engine that won't start and I can't figure out why. It's got fuel and spark. Since it is a 1956 model nobody will work on it so it is all on me.
I have a generator for some reason will only keep running if I put blocks on it to keep it tilted.
I have another boat where I let it sit too long and the gasoline in the carb has turned to gel and it is going to be a big pain to get it back up and running.
When I was in the hospital my wife felt she had to mow the lawn. My stupid lawn mower's carb was all screwed up so it was really difficult to start, and I hadn't gotten around to fixing and she damaged her back trying to start it, spend a year out of work and had two surgeries to try and fix it.
So yeah, I think internal combustion engines are a fucking pain the ass. If you don't maintain them they always die and fail.
Electric motors typically require zero maintenance. You don't need fuel stabilizer. You don't need to change the oil. You don't need to change the air filter. You don't need to do anything, and they always start.
I see your point. I find maintenance very therapeutic though. I had an electric mower and it sucked. Gas one did far better and I would only have to drain the oil and drain the fuel after the summer.
Sounds like the battery is grounding somewhere it shouldn't be and is draining. Do you trickle charge it? Radiator leaks are a pain in the rear, I end up epoxying most of the leaks I deal with.
Boat engine can be compression or valve timing. There are a lot of great videos on youtube that can walk you through roughly what it make take to fix it.
Ethanol gas is infamous for attracting water, making turn into jelly. Try ethanol free.
A lot of stuff is just knowing the small things and avoiding them.
Well I love my electric mower. I have three batteries. It takes one battery for the front and one for the back.
Nobody will ever have to hurt themselves starting it.
I appreciate your suggestions though. My biggest problem is the boat with the Continental L-Head 4 cylinder that I can't start.
