Don't forget, the Atlantic is the same rag who ran with the story that the Russians had put bounties on the heads of troops. They are as much of a bullshit propaganda rag as the New York Times or WaPo. And of course they paint themselves as respected journalism outlets because they use pretentious font styles in their website aesthetic and employ pompous, hyper-verbose writers who masturbate with their thesauruses each night.
