It was so good in person. But I wondered about it. It was sooo different in tone from other inaugural speeches. I am so glad we made the effort to go see it. I wonder if that will be the last inauguration in DC?
I will never forget as we stood on the mall waiting - the pure joy that everyone had. And then when the big screens showed Obama leaving the White House for the last time, the crowd broke out with:
nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah, hey hey go-ood bye!!
Wow, you were there? I remember watching and thinking, wow, that was kinda odd for an inauguration speech. I watch it today and I look at that crowd back then and how they mildly respond to some key points- they don’t get it, they don’t understand the gravity of what he is about to go up against. Non of us did. That was the turning point of our country, most likely...humanity.
The inauguration was a bucket list item, especially after enduring both of Obamas. I made the hotel reservation as soon as Trump won on Election Day.
I knew at the time that I liked the speech, especially when the media bashed it immediately as dark. While it didn’t seem dark to me, I remember thinking how different it was.
But yes, I had no idea what he was really telling us in that speech - what he was about to do.
Such a great speech. Crazy to listen in today’s context.
