They sailed. On calm seas you can see ships and landmass disappear over the horizon, and they began to wonder why. Soon, using some of the same basic calculations we use today to navigate they were even able to get a rough estimate of the size of the earth by measuring the distance it takes for something to disappear
thats not true, why do you think telescopes were invented? because they could see further when the ships "went over the horizon" in reality they used them to see ships that the naked eye could not. there are tons of videos proving this, just have to look.
To be able to zoom on on distant objects. Why do ships have masts for a the spotter to sit on if theres no curvature and elevation is irrelevant? How come with a powerful enough telescope i cant see austin from the oklahoma devon tower? And iv yet to see someone zoom in on the horizon only for a ship to magically appear from nowhere, only bring into focus whats already there. Its pretty easy to test this at any sufficiently large body of water
Lol to say everything can be described thru our senses is fucking retarded
How did the ancients who 'discovered' that the earth was a globe do it?
