What do flat earthers have to say about people who's jobs rely on the Earth being an ellipsoid/geoid? Are we part of the con?
I mean I get it, for 99.999999% of what humans do on Earth, the flat Earth assumption is more than adequate, so I can understand the lack of exposure. But physics becomes a lot more fun when you start working with rotating reference frames and celestial bodies.
They sailed. On calm seas you can see ships and landmass disappear over the horizon, and they began to wonder why. Soon, using some of the same basic calculations we use today to navigate they were even able to get a rough estimate of the size of the earth by measuring the distance it takes for something to disappear
