Not exactly germane but years ago United Healthcare refused to allow me to add my Father in Law on my insurance, even tho he was living with us, totally dependent on us, and I could claim him as a dependent.

However, the agent dealing with me - it was a company group plan - did tell me that if he and I were queer lovers I could get him covered as a same sex spouse or significant other.

Just saying.
