What is a torrent? - It's like a table of contents (index) that allows computers to find information through the use of a Bittorrent client.
What files are shared over torrent? - Any file(s) can be shared over a torrent.
Why will this be important soon? The future is unknown, but torrent is already important now, because it permits nearly immutable file sharing for any file that a computer can find a torrent swarm for. Even if the torrent appears gone, it can sometimes re-appear later, or resurface under a new torrent.
How do you safe with torrents? - You are safe using torrents to download many things, such as Linux Distributions and many other types of files that could be shared. However if the torrent contains sensitive, illegal, or unpleasant information, it would be best to choose a vpn to access the torrent.
What is a vpn?- it is a service to permit a user to mask their IP address by connecting to a virtual private network located elsewhere, and letting a user appear to using the internet from that location from an IP perspective.
Can vpn be used with torrents? - Mostly all paid ones, yes, but there are some exceptions. Not all free ones, but there may be some. A good idea is to research them and weigh pros and cons of choosing a vpn (link repeated)
Why would you want to use a vpn with torrents? - To download any file the computer can find, while masking your IP address.
What is a seedbox? - It is a service to permit a user to use a remote high-speed network computer that can become a seed (hosting all verified data of the torrent) in the torrent swarm, with the goal of improving the overall torrent speed for wider and longer sharing to peers (those who do not have all the data chunks of the torrent yet). As with vpn, a user should do some research.
Thank you for this explanation
Torrents are by far the best method to distribute large amounts of information quickly while not allowing any sort of "authority" the ability to prevent it from being distributed. A torrent, especially when many of the people in the swarm are using VPNs, is impossible to stop unless you simply shut down ALL traffic. The moment you turn the traffic back on the torrent will start back up in a matter of minutes. So unless they are going to turn the internet off and leave it that way for months and months...
Can't stop the signal... :)
In BitTorrent, why are some seeds and peers represented by numbers in parentheses (brackets)?
connected(known)
Yes please direct all of your traffic through a small, select number of servers that the feds can all easily track without subpeona by simply asking these companies, in the rare case that they aren't already sharing info.
Sometimes you have to take risks in life, anon.
