That whole show is based and patriotic.
The pirates are anons. We infight with each other but band together against the one world government when it comes down to it. Really, we all just want to be free, that’s what it means to be a pirate in One Piece.
Luffy is a Jesus savior figure, he elected his crew/disciples despite what those he chose wanted or whether they deserved it (Nami, Robin) and forgave them for everything. He does not think but follows his heart which is pure and good. He instinctively hates evil and so does his crew. He always wins against all odds because he is a chosen one. He easily gains the adoration of everyone around him that does not have an evil heart because of the tropes he breaks.
They fight against people who have kidnapped and want to experiment on children, knowing it will lead to their deaths, keeping them addicted to narcotics so they don’t run away, telling their parents that they took them to actually care for them.
The show is filled with the evil antagonists engineering a problem which they will swoop in as the hero in order to manipulate and control entire countries.
The world government / Navy is seen as the good force to the masses, while pirates are seen as the enemy. But the Navy only causes death, suffering, and destruction as they pilfer and take advantage of situations. Even a good Navy soldier who worked up to admiral can do very little to correct the Navy’s deeds. The pirates, Luffy, are the ones who are really saving people, despite everyone being afraid of them due to propaganda.
It portrays how the world really works with deep seeded and hidden corruption, and it isn’t far fetched in its portrayal at all. It makes it obvious that, of course that’s how evil fights!
Kind of sounds like piracy during the "Golden Age."
Can you expand as much as possible? Sorry, I’m just crazy interested in if there is something to the cliche pirate era that we aren’t told about. Like we are trained to think all pirates are bad thieves but I’m not so sure anymore.
