I haven't lost any friends, I just don't hear from a couple of my liberal friends from my childhood. I know where they'll stand on the issue. Most of my other friends are military, former military and law enforcement. They are all in agreement. We share memes and links to stories. I share links from here with them and it further places then in my camp. I guess in adult life, I've just gravitated to a certain type of person to be friends with. I haven't lost many and I'm grateful. I'm very sad to see so many people who lost so many. Look on the bright side, we've made hundreds of like minded friends and a few glowies and shills that we get to make fun of.
I'm happy to hear such a story, Dexter. One needn't discuss certain things because, as you said, you know where they'll stand and there's literally no point.
I do struggle with sharing as deeply as I once did, though, with someone whose world view is far different than mine and that's rooted in ignorance. So the gravitation situation has changed. When you're isolated and dealing with a scarcity of resources, preserving what's there in terms of relationship seems a good course to follow.
This definitely lets us know who the tyrants are among friends and family. Everyone should respect each other's choices. Forcing anyone to do anything against their will is considered a sin to me. Even when you know they are making a huge mistake, you plead your case, but respect the decision that they make for themselves. Even if I was pro mRNA vax, I would still defend people right to choose for themselves.
