You really think we’re going to agree objectively on this?
I’m a liberal. If someone takes a step to the left, more often than not, they are also taking a step toward what I see as a benefit for the country.
That’s not to say that steps to the right are bad for the country. But it’s not generally the direction I move in.
For instance, I think trying to send home the DACA people was a bad move. I do not like the idea of punishing the child for the crimes of the father, especially when the punishment involves exile to a country where they potentially don’t even speak the language, and especially since DACA people are verified good citizens as a condition of the program.
And therefore, I agree with Biden overruling Trump’s attempts to deport DACA people.
I get the arguments that Trump people made saying that DACA is bad for the country. I understand the possibility of parents gaming the system. I do not particularly care, because I think the rights of the children are paramount and do not see illegal immigration as threateningly as you likely do. So I disagree with Trump that DACA makes our country worse and needed to be ended.
I am assuming (but not confident) that you can present an argument as to why I’m wrong.
It’s a value judgement. Perhaps there is an objective answer, but it’s clearly a difficult one to prove definitively.
I don’t even disagree with everything Trump said. Problem is that the stuff I agreed with him on (like the importance of a grand infrastructure bill) never materialized during his administration. So I don’t really have a lot of actual works on which to ally with him.
So that is your one policy of the Trump administration that you believe hurt U.S. citizens? What about the one policy of Biden you think helps U.S. citizens?
That's one policy. Not the only one.
Also, if you're looking for someone to sing the praises of Biden, you'll want to find someone else.
Then you aren't a full-on leftist :) Take care; eventually you WILL be fully conservative. It took me until I turned 30. I don't know how old you are, but unfortunately, it seems harder for older people to either admit how foolish the Democrat party is, or deal with the fact that they were fooled by MSM and others all those years they remained in that vile political party.
Perhaps that's true.
My own perspective is that you guys grossly overestimate how much of a hive-mind liberals actually are.
I am perfectly comfortable disagreeing with and criticizing the guy I voted for. I would bet money that I have probably spent more words publicly criticizing Clinton than any single person on this board. I know that Democrats and government itself has its problems.
I just do not see Trump as the solution to those problems. In fact, I saw Trump as a special kind of threat to our democracy that went beyond anything Clinton or Biden was capable of.
Which is why I was convinced to vote for both Clinton and Biden over him, despite really despising the former and seeing the latter as only a hair away from a conservative.
Part of believing that the government can solve problems (like healthcare) means that you tend to keep a VERY close eye on who is running that government. It's not blind trust. If anything, the problem becomes that we want to micromanage, because we don't trust them to do this properly.
I would have rather seen Clinton as POTUS than Trump for one reason only: I believe that Trump does in public and confidently what Clinton does in private.
And if I have to accept shenanigans in politics for now, I'd rather POTUS at least pretend to care about hiding misdeeds and corruption, because that gives the people a measure of control that we could never have over someone like Trump.
Then you're an idiot.
