Soros started investing in China years ago. I think he thought they would roll over for him eventually. Then at a conference (Davos?), he made a speech where he was shocked, shocked to find out they were totalitarians (weren't going to do his will?) and that he had misunderstood their culture. He even gave Trump credit for recognizing that. I haven't relocated that exact speech yet, but I remember he did seem genuinely upset.
