I actually did jump off some bridges that my friends told me to jump off of, fortunately they were over a river though.
The rule was, if you go up on the bridge, you can't walk back down. It was like a matter of honor, and any red blooded American, at least the ones I grew up with, would absolutely not walk back down.
I took a guy from England up on bridge. Before going up, I told me, if you go up, you cannot walk back down. He walked back down despite my attempts to shame him into being a man.
