AUSTRALIA: Premier Posts ‘International Dog Day’ Photos Days After Rescue Dogs Reportedly Slaughtered Due To COVID Regulations
Australian officials are posting pictures of cute dogs just days after it was reported that rescue dogs were being slaughtered in the name of COVID-19.
On August 22, National File reported that a New South Wales council in Australia was slaughtering rescue dogs due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Just 4 days later, the Premier of Queensland posted pictures of cute dogs for “International Dog Day.”
As National File previously reported, the Australian government was met with disdain and criticism when they cruelly slaughtered rescue dogs in the name of COVID-19 restrictions, prompting outrage from animal rights groups and calls for an investigation.
“Several impounded dogs due to be rescued by a shelter have instead been shot dead by a rural council in NSW under its interpretation of COVID-19 restrictions, alarming animal activists and prompting a government probe.
Bourke Shire Council, in the state’s north-west, killed the dogs to prevent volunteers at a Cobar-based animal shelter from travelling to pick up the animals last week, according to council’s watchdog, the Office of Local Government,” the report states.
A few days later, the Premier of Queensland Annastacia Palaszczuk posted multiple photos of cute dogs on her Twitter account.
Thanks for sending in the pics of your puppers for International Dog Day,” tweeted Palaszczuk. “Here are some you posted in the comments.”
