Can see your point; however, EVERY citizen has (at least, SHOULD HAVE) a vested interest in the future of our children and our country as today's youth will be our COUNTRY'S TOMORROW. They will be tomorrow's parents/grandparents, community/governmental leaders, scientists, teachers, healthcare providers, emergency service providers, religious leaders, and will hold EVERY POSITION/JOB you can imagine and more. As such, their education will, in large part, determine what that future - EVERYONE'S future - will be.
While having kids in school undoubtedly generates more interest in a lot of people, there are A LOT of brainwashed, sheeple, commie, power-hungry parents who aren't fit to make decisions about training a pet, let alone making decisions about educating children.
IMHO, a few of the MOST important qualifications for board membership should be a candidate's views/positions on key topics, dedication/activism to the cause, and the way the candidate leads his or her life. Most school board candidates are known within their communitues and there's a lot of info on the internet, so weeding out the wheat from the chaff and the truthful from the posers/frauds SHOULDN'T be rocket science, though, this would require voters to actually CARE enough to actively participate in the election process - run themselves or pay attention, campaign, dig and make known concerns about inappropriate candidates.
