Couldn’t they have just made him chief atheist and found someone who believes in God — any God — to serve as chief chaplain?

Before you can even get cells you need to get proteins, and proteins are one of the most complicated structures in the entire body.
The chance that even a single, functioning protein could form from the available amino acids that exist, by chance, is a number larger than the amount of matter that is believed to exist in the observable universe.
Then, at some point, those proteins all have to get together and form RNA.. and then DNA.
Once you get to this point, the math behind even a single cell existing, much less thousands of specialized types of cells working concert to keep a complex being alive becomes so astronomical that it's not even possible that a single human could exist.
We are literally NOT POSSIBLE absent a directed designer, no matter what you want to call the designer, something built us, with a blueprint... a blueprint that's literally included in our cells.
