The paper Dr. Fauci wrote does not implicate masks, it only talks about how more people died of Bacterial pneumonia than died of the virus in the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic.
There are plenty of other papers however, that talk about how masks are great places for bacteria to grow, and how breathing them in, and letting them grow, and breathing them in some more substantially increases the likelihood of bacterial infection.
So its kinda true that Fauci said that, and he almost certainly knows that, but it isn't true that he really said masks cause pneumonia AND people die from pneumonia during a pandemic. He only said the second one. The first is otherwise substantiated by a lot of other research (a lot in dentistry).
Agree, we should be careful with these memes and stories. I'm not saying it's deliberately - I think it is quite human - but the stories told are becoming a tad inaccurate. The way we are scrutinized, it's important for us to be accurate, since our enemies will mince every word.
Another poster just recently said that the inventor of the PCR test stated that it could not test for covid. While the gist is true, this is an inaccurate statement, because the inventor died before covid was a thing. His statement was made during the 90's during the HIV scare. He said the test could not diagnose diseases.
