Courage and integrity does not pay bills or feed mouths. This is not how relationships last. Standing through thick and thin, love conquers all, and Disney-esque endings.
I'm looking at it through her perspective. She was married to a successful competent man. Then that man made a decision to speak out. Now look what has happened to him. He has lost everything. No income. No home. No assets. No retirement. And now possibly going to the brig? The world shitting on him and by association her for him being married. But he has a his dignity right?
Men and women have gotten separated for legitimate but far less substantial reasons worthy of divorce than this.
If I lost everything, and could not provide for my family, my wife would leave and take the kids to her family... who could provide and help her raise them as it means they are fed and survive. It almost came to that once. And honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way, I have to earn her respect, not have her support me just because we have rings on our fingers. It doesn't mean she doesn't love me. It means she does what is necessary to survive.
But I'm sure most mothers who care about their kids want to go into financial ruin and live out of their car (if they still have one) just to keep the kids and the marriage going.
Jeebus, think like an adult, not a 6 year old girl infatuated with the Little Mermaid.
I'm sorry for whatever almost happened to you. I'm sorry you didn't choose a wife that was willing to downsize/get a job to help you support the family. By the way, if you hadn't earned her respect before marrying her, then there is something fundamentally wrong with the relationship.
Yes, it's generally on the man to financially support the woman. It is also on the woman to support her man, even when the going gets rough. Budget, move into an affordable home, get rid of unnecessary habits/possessions. Stay if not for your spouse, but your children.
This woman married a marine. She knew there was a possibility that he would never come home. And yet, the thought of losing that retirement money was just too much for her too bear. Pathetic.

My wife nearly leaving me motivated to make massive changes in my life: therapy, diet, work-habits. I'm a better husband.
I never side it was right or moral. I said it is the reality of the world we are in. And that world isn't full of sunshine and daisies.
