Well, they showed how just one bit was changed. You would expect this to happen once or twice in a life time. It would be easily detectable and most important computers use ECC now, which would detect the error as it happens.
I am not too worried they will use this as an explanation. You can not explain 354,310 flipped votes by the flipping of a single bit.
