My dad is on day 7 in the hospital with COVID today. I have brought him a green smoothie every morning despite that there are strict "rules" against visiting or bringing anything except electronics to COVID patients. Yesterday, a new Gatekeeper demanded to see my vaccine card in order to let me drop off my bag downstairs for my father.

I told her I have been vaxxed but I refuse to participate in any discriminatory practice of showing my papers to anyone. Then I sat in the lobby to wait for someone to come up and take the bag from me and proceeded to ask every single employee arriving for their shift change if they felt comfortable seeing me be discriminated against by one of their colleagues for refusing to show my papers proving I have been vaccinated. Everyone muttered something about "Corporate Policies." I reminded them they are not corporations but individuals with autonomy to act wrongly or rightly and that discriminating against someone based on whether or not they took the COVID vaccine is WRONG.

This morning I knew the same attendant would be working at the desk. I greeted her warmly and told her my father's nurse was expecting me. I approached her knowing she could make a different decision from yesterday but that she might not.

She called down to confirm the nurse was waiting for me and then sent me on my way. On the way out I asked if I would be seeing her tomorrow and she said yes. I did a little dance on the way to my car.

I think we can win with reason and logic and even a little gentle public shaming when the sitiation warrants it as long as we're dealing with humans. When they bring in the robots it will be more challenging.
