My 8th grader got quarantined today as a “close contact” of someone who tested positive - not someone who had symptoms even.
They called me to tell me this right about dismissal time. When my kid was on the bus, but the busses were probably still in the parking lot. If it’s that serious, why was she allowed to ride the bus home? They aren’t forced to wear masks so now, if she does get sick, all the kids on her bus will be quarantined.
AND to make things even better - her sister, in 6th grade, same school, same bus, same household - obviously - still has to go to school. If she misses any while the other one is quarantined, they both have to have negative tests to come back.
So now my healthy kid has to sit at home for over a week… missing a weeks worth of soccer practices, 3 games, and loses out on making money as a referee for the younger kids. Her assignments will be emailed to her but she gets no instruction.
Oh… and if I get her the vaxx she can go right back. No waiting.
If this was about science she would have been separated at school, made to mask up and wait until I get there. And her sister would be quarantined as well, because that’s how viruses work. They don’t wait for a bus ride home, they don’t avoid other kids, they sure as hell don’t avoid siblings. And 1 shot of the vaxx immediately fixes all of it?
I like her school, it’s a conservative area, lots of flags, lots of patriotism, but the health dept guidelines they are supposed to follow are ridiculous.
And we still aren’t getting that damn shot.
HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL HOMESCHOOL......
Ok sorry, obviously I believe in homeschool. These schools are damaging kids, homeschool is the way. I can't encourage it enough. I practice what I preach too, on my 8th year of homeschooling right now. Anyone can do it once you realize homeschool doesn't have to resemble "school" in any way.
We’ve talked about homeschool, and the only reason she’s still in school is because of the gifted/STEM program… there’s no homeschool coops around here that offer anything that can compare with that, and I certainly can’t do it… I’m an artsy, musical type and she wants to be an engineer or architect.
She’s going to start college level classes next year… she’s been looking forward to that since she heard about the program a couple years ago.
It might end up being an option with the younger one though.
I should say at the building level they are conservative. They still say the pledge every morning, the football team runs onto the field carrying the flag, teachers have been disciplined for getting too political, and CRT is not an option.
The superintendent and 1 school board member are raging liberals, I think that’s where most of the COVID rules come from.
Same thing happened to us. All-around.
There’s no reason to even subject her to a test or add to their numbers they use to promote the fear.
She had to get tested for surgery last year and said she will never do that again.
If people without symptoms would STOP getting tested, this would go away.
Yep a four year old in my son's preschool with a one day sniffe had a positive Covid test so we were at home for two weeks. Lots of the kids had some simptoms. Nobody got seriously ill. My kids were recommended to gets tests but they didn't get tested.
Who says they have to follow the health dept guidelines?
You are a parent in that school. You have the power to take control back. The health dept has no legal authority to demand anything. The school complies because they think they do. There is NO LAW that the school is following. I will say that again:
THERE IS NO LAW THAT THE SCHOOL IS FOLLOWING!
Ask them to show the law that they are following.
Following a "mandate" is a choice. It hands over authoritarian rule to someone, bypassing law and the structure of our government entirely.
Tell the school to stop. Force the school to stop. Don't do it alone, get other parents and force the school to stop.
You have the power. I believe in you.
Bunch of bullshit. Im sorry, it’s defiantly harder on the kids than us. I hope she gets back to school with no issues.
The conspiracy theory of “asymptomatic spread” was thoroughly debunked over a year ago, anyone still peddling that is anti science.
My healthy kid ended up missing over 30 days of schooling last spring due to rules like these, kid was the healthiest in his life and had to stay home, oh an that means I did too and that’s a significant income and education loss for 2 healthy people to stay home and hang out for no good reason. But, I am super ready for homeschooling now thanks to the test drive.
