All shipping and all ports are very unusual right now. On the US west coast, ships have been waiting months offshore, just to unload. In China PRC, some of the largest ports have reduced their traffic by 70%, like a 24/7 busy 12-runway airport shutting down 9 of them. This messes up almost all container traffic routes, and ports, no matter what they're doing and where they're going.
Not an expert but boat a lot in FL. I’ve seen container ships docked for a couple of days off shore Port of Jacksonville. Not sure if it’s because they made it there too early, or a ship unloading is delayed and there’s no dockage space. Will leave it to ship fags, But to answer your question, I’ve seen ships anchored about 3-4 miles out for days
Does this ship usually go to the same port (Qingdao, China) to pick up freight? Scheduled arrival is this Saturday the 18th.
Is it normal to anchor in the middle of the sea for long periods?
Honest questions, I'm not a sailor.
