The ownership of the guidestones were given to Elbert County, Georia by the original man commissioned to construct them.

It's privately owned and sitting on a 5 acre plot that was bought by the private owner for the stones. So technically if someone destroyed the monument they could be charged with trespassing and destruction of private property.
Just like all the haters and losers got in trouble for destroying monuments in parks.
I've emailed the county to confirm this because of the conflicting info, hopefully they will clarify. For research!
