The fact most of the first world still has a relatively free internet is why they haven't done everything they've wanted. They know we're watching, SOMEONE is recording whatever crazy shit is going on around them, and they CANNOT STOP THE SIGNAL. If they shut down the internet nationwide, it would be impossible NOT to notice.
