I see what you mean, and I would not have thought it to be a UFO. It's like someone froze time and carved out a piece of the sky; you can see the "inside" of the sky layer.
I would have guessed it was a reference to the ozone layer, but the location obviously doesn't imply that, assuming that has relevance to the cohesiveness of the image.
