Between now and the real thought times there is still some time. Time to prepare.
We know that the humanity will be at the precipice.
We suspect what that means. Maybe not humanity as a whole but each of us, one by one.
We can hear what's happening in Australia. It may come to the UK, France, US and other countries.
The moment someone starts knocking our door is too late to start thinking how to protect ourselves.
Having a reliable information from the neighbors, a warning that the evil orwellian jab commandos are walking around, might be useful.
My solution for it is: CB radio.
There is still some time to learn how to use it, findout which channels are best in our area. Get to know some people over the air.
At some point it might be helpful.
We all hope that the things won't go that far.
But: Would you believe that cops would be protecting the criminals and work for them? Would you believe that doctors would be killing their patients? What else we can expect?
Q said we will be at the precipice because that's when we will all find a will to change. It's not about us here. We know way more than the others. It's about everyone else. THEY have to change and they're not going to. Silent majoriy. Only once they will start seeing the precipice - things will start changing (mass arrests will be widely accepted, including journalists, politicians, etc.). No one will take care about MSM screaming.
At that point having CB and friends in the air that we can contact (even if they switch off our SIM cards) might be useful.
They made a great cb radio
Me too!
Not for a CB radio. For a shortwave radio, in ordinary times you need a license, but if SHTF, who would do anything if you didn't have one?
They are 20 deep in pawn shops.
Baofeg UV-5R is selling cheap as they are high frequency,a frequency now banned from import. They are unloading them. Not illegal to own.Not cb,and a license is needed, harrumph, shtf???.They are selling for around 25$ each.Less if you buy a pack of them.Antenae, headsets, battery etc are easily found.A battery pack for them that is AA battery's is cheap also. This gives more flexibility with solar recharge.A repeater box is about 20$.A repeater requires to handsets to repeat both ways.A repeater set above housing should allow a neighborhood good comms.I sure am no expert, this is what we are doing. We also run cb.I bought mine on line, this radio is often listed as unbranded, get is same radio. They are hopped up wally talks.
Wally tally's.)
local phone tree. only the point person needs the CB or Ham.
It's a good idea to be prepared. CB radios are good for what they are. They transmit on the 11 meter band and are subject to ionospheric variations sometimes permitting long distance communications, most times not. They are limited in power input to 5 watts. (a night light dissipates 15 watts) Very dependent on the sunspot cycle. If you are looking for dependable communications of more than a few blocks you will need more in terms of power, antennas and equipment. GMRS radios are something to consider if you are a little technically inclined and wish to play around and experiment BEFORE the SHTF. There was a good post on GW awhile back that gives the basics. Check it out if you are serious about setting up a network of friends, family or cohorts with reliable emergency communications. Good Luck https://greatawakening.win/p/11RO2mAAfg/gmrs-radio-shtf-text-messaging-a/
Limited to 5 watts if you don't hook it up to a linear amplifier. If things go south, I have no problem doing what I have to do.
Get a Baofeng. It listens to everything FM legally, but it is illegal to transmit without a HAM radio license. Even then, it may have the wrong license/stickers. Unless in case of emergency of course, which is the only time I would ever need to transmit anyway. I have this cool new gadget called a smartphone.
CB is AM. You need FM, it's short for "fucking magic". Having said that, CB is a nice addition to your preps, I just think most prepper types have definitely switched to FM.
To help folks from making novice mistakes: your “ears” is what takes finesse and first overlooked. I would rather be able to communicate with a 5 watt rig and good/ tuned antenna 40 miles than a beast that everyone hears but I can’t hear the guy 15 miles away. A SSB receiver doubles your ears. CW with a good filter goes much further if you are willing to learn the discipline. An SWR meter is a must! If you have higher SWR’s (bad thing) on higher frequencies as compared to below your desired spot you should trim your antenna. In reverse you have to add (solder connections) I hope this is a good link on antenna building. The book helped me. https://dokumen.pub/simple-low-cost-wire-antennas-for-radio-amateurs-3-ed-1-print-9780933616028-0933616023.html
The 5/8 wave antenna I built from the book weighs less than a pound an can be pulled high in a tree after slingshotting fishing line. Regular conversations at 40 mile.
how far is the range on those things?
With a linear amplifier and good antenna, you can talk to foreign countries.
Range it very dependent on your antenna and its altitude above other obstructions. Just buying a mobile CB radio antenna and sticking it on your car will get your a couple of blocks range, sometimes. Most cheap portable CBs have a built in antenna which is short. Almost useless. You need a unit that has a separate antenna jack on the back so you can hook up a decent antenna, such as a dipole. Google CB dipole designs for some starters. Do this and a CB will perform adequately (sometimes spectacularly depending on sunspots) Have fun.
Yeah, that's my concern. Not very far from what I understand. Maybe 5 - 15 miles, tops. If you've got family / friends 30 miles away, I don't think it will reach them.
Wiki says: about 3 miles (4.8 km) to 20 miles (32 km) depending on terrain.
People have a better chance of buying a new shortwave radio than finding a CB radio that still works.
Go to loves .
