Former artist/designer: I would say, in my wildest dreams, that if things begin to be restructured, fine arts colleges will either begin to shutter or to pivot into more crucial education. If anything, maybe emphasize history through art instead of churning out disenfranchised artists taught shitty quick techniques. I am convinced dadaism, avant garde, brutalism, etc. were all created to demoralize and devalue beauty.
Education has to be crumbled and rebuilt.
Serious looks into travel infrastructure and maintenance. No doubt innovations in travel, materials, and processes are being held back. I can’t imagine what Chicago would look like without constant construction.
Hopefully rebuilding financial institutions destroy the need for welfare.
So much is broken. Everything needs a new coat of paint.
I enjoyed hearing your arts perspective. As an engineer I love art history but know so little. I don’t want the arts to go away either.
Look up those movements and tell me they weren’t designed to erode away classic techniques and beauty. There is so much more that has destroyed art. Follow the trends of war and revolution. You’ll see that after major conflicts, new schools were introduced that promoted efficiency, absurdity, and implied messaging.
Art used to be able to tell a story. Now, a couple wavy lines on a canvas supposedly “represents the turmoil of the human soul in its desperate attempt for relevance” or some such nonsensical self-appointed important message.
Source: went to art school from 18-29 on and off. They frown upon beauty. They hate crisp technique. They love the more inane bullshit and flowery descriptions you assign to your work.
You gotta check out Mikeswmathis.com. He writes about art and more on his updates section of his web site
Oddly enough, I was unable to access his website with the url you provided. Wouldn’t even show up until I typed out his complete name in a search engine.
