Why does this make me wonder about "Hopium"? ... is the above the opposite, related to it, or the same thing? Or is it the same fundamental emotional response?

Hopium is less tangible than hope. Hope is based on happenings, hopium is a hail Mary on 4th down with 10 seconds left.

Have you seen how fast people turn on people they always liked once they catch them pulling a Deep State action?

You can't really do it the other way. Someone trained to hate Trump isn't going to suddenly love him because they catch him doing something nice.
