Yup, and make it a daily, life-long habit. (Prayer's a good thing and there's SO much for which to pray.)
I try to pray, cant help feeling like a fool though. Like, hey big man upstairs I know youre omnipotent but lemme just give you some tips on some shit I'd like you to handle.
It's OK to ask.
Powerful prayers: Thy will be done. Make me an instrument of Thy will.
That's basically where I end up, "Please help me learn what's right, and help me to have the strength to do the right thing when I know it."
"lord if you're listening....HELP!"
Different people have different feelings about it.
My preference is to liken it to talking (and sometimes venting) to a respected parent or grandparen't who already knows your strengths and weaknesses and failings but listens to your frustrations, sympathizes with your disappointments, hears your wants/hopes/desires/concerns and listens to your opinions (good and bad) - without expecting perfection - AND loves you unconditionally. (Who else can you tell about your deepest/darkest feelings and your worst secrets/actions without fear of disclosure or ridicule?)
In any case, many find the very act of acknowledging a higher power helps reduce some stress/anxiety because it can provide a feeling of connectedness to something greater than themselves that can reduce the feeling of going through things alone.
Sure, but if I try and think of it like that I feel like I'm being selfish just using God as my personal sounding board. Either way. I know god exists, though I'm not sure about what exactly god is. And I have the innate sense that praying is good. Just need to get around my own insecurities and self deprecation I suppose.
