I have two really great female dogs I need to get fixed, but the rabies shot is mandatory by state law. I haven't gotten a dog vaxxed in years. When I stopped getting their shots it was because I didn't want to pay for them and they weren't around other dogs. But now I think it was beneficial to them because all of our dogs die of really old age and they are healthy until they die. I can't opt out of the rabies shots. Any ideas? I was even thinking of finding a state were vax aren't required for dogs and get them fixed there.

I also stopped vaccinating my animals about 20 years ago for the same reason and have had the same experience as you. Missouri does not require the rabies shot in the event you live close.
Might be time for a trip to Missouri🙂🐶
So just to clarify, do you believe unvaxxed dogs are healthier/longer living?
I do now. Our dogs live to 15, 17 years old with no health problems, no cancers, etc, and I really don't do anything special for them. I was thinking about it a while back, before covid, and decided it was cuz of no shots for them.
The pet industry has become another one of the billion/trillion dollar industries and "they" make a lot of money off of sick pets. I wouldn't be surprised if our pet's shots contain stuff to make them sick, give them cancers, etc, just to produce money for the industry.
I just came up against that same crap getting two rescue kitties neutered. Indoor cats. No escaping the neutering as I sure cannot have my sanctuary population breeding. I do not feel very paranoid about the rabies vaccs, tho. Having two unspayed female dogs is risky, could have an unplanned litter if there is an accidental breeding and that would not be good. You could make sure they receive the one year, minimal vacc and just never get a booster. I would not worry about negative effects. I don't vacc my adult sanctuary dogs. But if in your situation I'd go ahead. Generally speaking, the vacc I feel is most critical is for puppies, the parvo. Blessings to you and your dogs, fren
Thanks, fren. And blessings to you and your sanctuary. Our family motto is "dogs are good people"
Ok, thanks!
I understand your reluctance and you need to look at your own situation to decide. The bottom line is that rabies does not just come from other dogs, it can be a squirrel, racoon, bat or any random mammal that bites them or they find on the ground. If your dog should ever bite a person, they will take your dog and put it down because the only way to test for rabies is in brain tissue.
Our older dog had a bad reaction one time out of the five times (every 3 years), she ran a fever and drug her hind end. We debated with the vet when it was time for her next shot and he tried a different brand with no add'l problems, he did give us the option not to give her the booster but she is outside a lot and we decided that if she were ever to bite a kid was not worth skipping it.
Very good perspective. Thanks!
Rabies is probably the one you don't want to skip, IMO. It's a horrific disease.
Ok. Thanks!
