Same reason we've been joking about Pfizer making Pfizermectin. Same as Ivermectin, but brand name so they can charge $500 a bottle instead of $5 a bottle.
So if Merck makes a patentable drug that is Ivermectin Version 2.0. [Just like Ivermectin but we switched a couple atoms around) and charges higher prices, then they can get some ol'mighty dollar for themselves.
At this point, I might not even be as angry with them as I should be if it stops the vaccines.
