as a hypothetical, if global warming / the environment is the biggest threat to the planet, then it would make sense to reduce the population to save it (people use power, people consume too much, people drive cars and create pollution) ...
you can't kill everyone, wars are messy, but 'accidental' sterilisations are fine ...
now what if this was agreed amongst all countries, but china decided that they wouldn't do it?
in 50 years time, every other country has 1% of their normal birth rate and china's continues to explode ...
