We don't know how PV operates necessarily. They may have given him a heads up this was to be released, so he could get more documents etc. before being fired.

Or they may have offered for him to go on record and he refused.

Yes, but we don't know 1) when this was recorded and 2) whether he was approached and got more info for PV and 3) if he was possibly already caught and fired
