I'm GenX and feel that Connery was the best ... From Russia With Love is my all time favorite of that series. His only bad ones were Diamonds Are Forever (terrible frigging movie though Plenty O'Toole was fun to look at) and Never Say Never Again (should have never been made ... awful movie).
My second favorite was Timothy Dalton ... I think he nailed the part perfectly. License to Kill could have been a classic if they would have gotten rid of some of the corniness in it. The Living Daylights is a great spy flick (though it does seem to drag towards the end). Shame he didn't do more of them.
Roger Moore would be third ... I thought The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only were among the best ... I dug Octopussy and A View to a Kill (I was young then ... I think its mainly nostalgia talking now though Octopussy has held up ... Tanya Roberts was lucky that she was incredibly fun to look at in A View to a Kill ... if she wasn't gorgeous, that movie would have tanked). The rest weren't very good. Moonraker is one of the worst movies ever in my opinion. You could tell it was a rush job made to cash in on Star Wars.
Of the remaining, I'd say Lazenby, Craig, then Brosnan. The last two were stuck with some horribly written stories. Lazenby was solid in On Her Majesty's Secret Service and the overall movie isn't that bad, but he needed more than one movie.
