Yeah, he kicked back to people from his home town, for the benefit of them and himself. Sure it was crooked, but it wasn't nearly as bad as what most do in Congress currently.

Jim was a family friend, and was far from a bad guy. Would still be hugely popular here. Met him a few times, would've loved to hear his opinion on Trump. He had no friends in D.C, much like 45 himself.

I guess Trump was clever to sorta play along in a sense or at least keep their secrets to himself, until it was time to strike. He was also a little immune, they stayed in his buildings so they had to butter up to him. I guess that gave him the card to play....
A lot of it was really silly, stupid crimes that would easily be looked over if it was someone who was playing their games in DC. He made staff tend to his farm instead of working in office, which was the least of it. Then he had an attorney from the Youngstown area working for him in D.C, but had him essentially write off the rent that Trafficant was paying him for an office in Youngstown as a way to say thank you for getting him the D.C job.
Worst of it was trying to score a contract for a Youngstown company that was making some sort of laser device to help planes land safely in exchange for paying off the debt on his boat. Obviously not a good look, but the thing that most people overlook is that Trafficant was actually doing things that would've been huge for the place he represented in Congress. He also was a part of getting the federal funding done for a lot of the highways in the Youngstown area that are widely used today for freight transport like the 711 connector and things like that
The people that he kicked back to would've very likely done those things for free, mind you. Jim was very well liked here.
I saw him talking once on CSpan when i was a kid and i loved him and modelled rhetoric from him and thought "why isn't this guy president?" They killed him? Bummer
He kept fucking with the establishment after they'd given him a warning shot with the 8 years in prison. Ran against Tim Ryan whose probably being groomed as a Democrat presidential candidate, and won 16 percent of the vote as a 3rd party
He was guilty of poking the bear. The story never added up. Dude owned that farm for ages, had no problems, and then his tractor tips over on him. Never sat right with people around here
Media always smeared him in a similar fashion to DJT. "He's a mobster from Youngstown, he says outlandish things, his hair is a mess". He could've definitely had a resurgence in a Trump government. The only curiosity in my mind is whether it was a mob hit or a DS one
