They start to spread rumors that he's done for and that he committed all sorts of crimes. They more than likely have a satanic orgy thinking that Trump is certainly finished this time.
Trump then does the exact opposite of the way he proposed ... it'll turn out that the media's concerns were unfounded -OR- something will blow up in the media's face which requires them to spin like tops on acid. The media then sweeps it under the carpet and acts like it never cared about the thing that got them all riled up in the first place.

No. Only a sitting President can invoke executive privilege.
