It is a mistranslation...people continue to operate on the information they have. Its the same thing with Moses parting the Red Sea...in all likelihood this is a mistranslation and he likely parted the Sea of Reeds. Archeological information also seems to indicate that being the correct location. But people go on to refer to him parting the Red Sea.
