No, they didn't get it wrong. This is very much on purpose. Most movies and books are propaganda. This movie and comic told us exactly what was going to happen, because the system knew. And it's inverted, because they always invert the truth.

The comic is designed to tell the truth, while flipping it around and manipulating people into hating conservatives even more, because that's their end goal. They use this tactic all the time: making the right-leaning characters the bad guys in an otherwise honest scenario.
