They are suing to get rid of the vaccine mandate. And they are refusing to comply.
We just had thousands of doctors and nurses across the country walk out of their jobs due to the vaccine mandates—you really think pilots, who have one of the most thankless jobs in the world, wouldn’t do the same?
They’ve had to put up with so much BS the past 18 months; everyone reaches their breaking point eventually.
Not to mention that there is no federal law requiring these mandates, they’re telling the airline to F off with the requirement as there’s no legal nor medical basis for it.
Now you are conflating a mass walkout (and getting fired) with a lawsuit.
Their union doing a lawsuit is fine, insubordination and getting fired is much different. ATC is more protected than pilots, and your first post implied the pilots were the cause of the delays.
You don’t know how airlines and their seniority system works....nurses and doctors can change hospitals...pilots lose much if they switch airlines.
You have no proof of pilots and a sick out...none... like I said 4 posts ago....no sauce. No you just are making assertions about an industry that you don’t know much about.
The disparity between Southwest's operation and other airlines fueled speculation on social media that employees were calling out sick.
The Southwest Airlines Pilots Association, Southwest pilots' labor union said that "we can say with confidence that our Pilots are not participating in any official or unofficial job actions."
"Our Pilots will continue to overcome SWA management's poor planning, as well as any external operational challenges, and remain the most productive Pilots in the world," it said.
Earlier on Saturday, the union noted that the company's recent announcement that it will comply with the Biden administration's requirement that federal contractors must mandate staff Covid vaccinations is contributing to distractions for aviators.
"Make no mistake about it – due to months of staffing issues and inefficient scheduling practices we have been operating at a higher than normal operational risk," the union's safety committee told members in a post on Saturday.
It said reports of fatigue, which require pilots not to fly, are triple historic norms.
"All of these challenges have led to an added distraction in the cockpit," it said. "This week's COVID-19 vaccine mandate announcement by the Company only exacerbates the situation."
No response about doctors and nurses having nowhere to go? You continue to argue in bad faith. Shocked.
It’s the mandates. And it appears the sickout is union supported.
Alex Berenson has reported the same through his email alerts.
When this is over, there will be many, may people that held ‘respected’ jobs looking for working. They will have to reassess their lives - high pressure or live a life getting back to basics. The world will soon be plunged into a ‘scare event’. You will either learn to cope now and jump ship from a cosy position or get thrown into a situation where any job pressures one has had over a lifetime of a career, will be minuscule compared to this ‘scare event’. This comes down to ‘trying to preserve your career’ or looking after your family when they will need you most.
They aren’t throwing away their career.

The lawsuit and the sickout this weekend ARE the pilots. It’s a multifront movement.
The Florida cancellations appear to be an unrelated ATC walkout.
You’re just pivoting and strawmanning for some reason.
Also, nurses and doctors can’t switch hospitals because they’re all mandating vaccination, as are the airlines.
