Pg73,Part2,s.10 book of Isaiah (supposedly written by Isaiah) discussing decree of Cyrus allowing Jews to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple- 150yrs after Isaiah was dead: “ What audacity of church and priestly ignorance it is to impose this book upon the world as the writing of Isaiah, when Isaiah, according to their own chronology, died soon after the death of Hezekiah, which was 693 years before Christ, and the decree of Cyrus, in favor of the Jews returning to Jerusalem, was, according to the same chronology, 536 years before Christ, which is a distance of time between the two of 162 years. I do not suppose that the compilers of the Bible made these books, but rather that they picked up some loose anonymous essays, and put them together under the names of such authors as best suited their purpose. They have encouraged the imposition, which is next to inventing it, for it was impossible but they must have observed it.”
No, he is actually quite pro-God, believes there is ample evidence of a benevolent deity- just that the Christian Bible/church has been corrupted to an almost irredeemable level. Also gives a good bit of evidence to his claim that ‘prophet’ as we know the word is nothing more than a misinterpreted translation of poet. For as you point out there are many prophecies throughout the Bible, many of which do not come true, many of which are the exact opposite of what comes true. But please continue to ignore Anything that upsets your gentle sensitivities or preconceptions, I’m sure that kind of blind hubris has always worked out.
you are right, it is not easy at all; funny thing is, I imagine that you and I would agree on that just and good way to live more often that we would disagree. I agree with and try to live by most of the teachings and morals, my disagreement with any writing does not necessarily mean I reject the lessons; my problems come more from my lack of trust in corrupt men (as it seems we learn of more rot by the day, all around us), rather than my lack of trust/faith that there is a higher power/purpose. Playing ‘devils advocate’ (for lack of a better term) and being almost too skeptical is just how I approach everything. I apologize for being so combative and hope you know I bear you no ill will; like I said, I believe we would be in agreement on most things more often than not, and I can honestly say I try to live and moral and just life in all I do- I will be an ally on the side of Good in this war...bc unfortunately, if not for anything else, the depths of the evil we’ve been shown in our world HAS to have an opposition. Wwg1wga and peace be with you fren.
