Call the ranger station for your local forest and they can give you details. We did this years ago and it wasn't hard to find downed trees not too far from an area where you could park your truck. Make sure you get hardwood.
Kinda a pita cutting, splitting, piling, etc a few cords of firewood every year, but sure as hell cheaper than gas or electric bills.
