Everyone walks their own road with God. That’s why it’s so narrow it’s meant for you alone. You decide which bible you like. I started with KJV so I memorized in that voice. That doesn’t mean you have to.
1611 KJ is perhaps the least corrupted of the English translations of the scriptures, primarily because of those who were involved in the translations -- many of whom were much wiser philosophers and theologians than anyone alive in the Church today.
But I would still say it depends on your purpose. If you're seeking deeper meaning in the scripture, in the occult tradition (i.e., hidden Wisdom), as Jesus talks about in Matthew 7, then there is no better English translation and I would highly recommend also getting a Greek and Hebrew parallel Bible as a companion to better understand the spirit of certain words which don't translate properly.
However, if you're more interested in the exoteric reading, the story of Christ, death and resurrection, most modern translations will be fine. The 1984 NIV is a decent edition that at least does a decent job of maintaining the exoteric translation.
As a Catholic, the Douay-Reims is the canonical bible but I do love the KJV for its phrasing and the flow of the language. It is Shakespearean or perhaps that's backwards. Are the words too hard for you? Do some more studying.
Okay one more thing:-), the Bible was Rewritten a few times. Translation was confused or lost. For example in Mark
25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. Now you will hear things like there is a Gate at Jerusalem called the eye of the needle. I've never been able to find that. But check this out. The Aramaic word for Camel is Gamal. But guess what it's also a slang term used by Mariners to describe an old thick rope that is used to tie boats. So what would make more sense a camel trying to hunker down and walk through the eye of a needle. Or a stick rope trying to go through the eye of the needle. He was talkin about riches at that point. So he would have to literally reverse the process of that rope unraveling it to the point of the inner core that would be small enough to thread a needle. And the Apostles were from fishing villages and were fishers/boaters. Keeping that in mind read that verse again. And you will see why it is so hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. I think it will give you a better understanding I pray because there is some really really awesome things in there.
Ive always had in the back of ny head its translations of trqnslations of interpretations. I have absolutely no doubt its direct from God but humans are human. I read some passages and ut fills me with joy, others confuse me. Unfortunatly ive become a cgerry picker :(
I also wonder about the KJV, especially since the Puritans had issues with him. and there's talk of him being a creeper.
so I've been reading through the Geneva Bible 1599. has a lot of margin notes which are interesting and KJ didn't like. he outlawed it, so that's enough for me to pay attention...
King james is an excellent translation. It is beautiful but kinda dated, the meanings of some of the old english words have even changed, so you have to research it when getting technical. It is not perfect but lines up very well with the oldest hebrew scrolls and the Septuagint. I think God was able to use sinful men to fulfill his will like always. There were only a couple outlaws who had managed partial translations at the time. The catholic church had kept all the holy scriptures in Latin, which only the priests understood. They were burning ppl alive for trying to translate it.
Also, you can download e-Sword for free on a PC. There's a lot of modules to add to that. Searching any Scripture. Also I don't know if this will help you but it helps me when you have a verse that you want to study, actually learn about it. Where were they, what were the conditions in that time, you know. Use Wiki to find out who that King was or where that mountain is. It will make a lot more sense., another thing, who wrote that particular book Chronicles, Ezra, 1st Thessalonians. And when did they write it. Been doing this for quite a few years. If I can help you in any way please let me know. Okay one more thing LOL. If you don't know words like Septuagint apocrypha pentateuch Torah. It will really open your eyes to learn those.
I love the KJ Bible more than other versions I have read. Although I came to my decision by its beauty and recommendations of others, I have since read this explanation of the history of different Bible versions in English. It's a good read if you are interested in the topic.
You're welcome, it's liberated me, I'm no less a believer, all this is done has been to alleviate some of my fears and answer my questions and it's taken me deeper. I had a feeling we were on the same wave length that's why I shared that
Grew up with the KJB. Think I will read the 1611 KJ. Lately I have been drawn more towards "what would Jesus do?" and the philosophy and reasonning behind, than the scriptures as we have them. I just know that the devil perverts everything he can, the vatican is Satan on earth...so...
Don't get me wrong, I am not one of them KJV only. But some of the newer translations are really bad. I grew up with KJV, and besides loving how it reads, from comparing over the years to other bibles it more accurate to what was actually written.
All that really matters is that it brings you to the foot of the cross. I guess if a watered down version of Gods Word brings you there, then that there is proof to me that God is there, and He performs miracles every single breath.
Check out The Founders Bible for a new way of reading the Bible. It may come in different versions I just happen to have NAS. No opinion on the different versions. Holy Spirit will guide you no matter the version.

NIV is trash Edit: NIV isn't even toilet paper worthy.
My only issue is Man has touched it everything man touches gets corrupted. I TRUST JESUS..... everything else grain of salt....

Compare them yourselves, dont take my word for it. But all of these newer translations are trash....shit tickets. https://buzzardhut.net/index/htm/Comparisons.htm

Try the nasb. It's more factual easier to read.

That said, prayer and communion with God will never lead you wrong.
Watch Bill Donohue's videos on YouTube at least this one. https://youtu.be/XoA4Wlqd29E
Thank You, I do relate to this man, and my beliefs seem same.

So what Bible do you prefer?
