I can't remember the name of the guy who wrote the book Logos Rising, but I think that he has a clear explanation for this.
I haven't read the book, but I've listened to several interviews where he talks about it.
The basic idea is that ancient Greek philosophers were looking for a unifying force for the universe and eventually settled on the idea of Logos. Logos translates to "word" in English, but the meaning of the Greek is far richer. Logos is the idea of order, logic, goodness, stability, etc.
The gospel of John begins by claiming Jesus is the Logos.
By rejecting Jesus, the Logos, people must choose the only other option: anti-Logos. We see the results of anti-Logos all around us today as our world has embraced it: hatred, dishonesty, gender confusion, greed, chaos.
I think the beginning of the awakening process is the search for Logos. Eventually some realize who the Logos really is.
If you haven't found the Logos yet, seek and you will find!
From what he said, I thought it might be interesting to read sometime. I don't agree with everything he says (e.g. I'm not RC), but I think his presentation of Logos / anti-Logos is correct and a good explanation of what is going on in the world today.
He speaks a lot about the subversion of the RCC, but about many other issues as well. You don't have to agree with everything a writer says, in fact, it is best you do not and do further research on your own.

The book is a long slough, but fascinating if you keep your eyes open. All from a very Catholic position, both historically and spiritually.

I've read several of his books over the years and various talks on the webs.I would suggest others check him out as well.
Thanks for the suggestion, putting it on my list.
