Of the 46 deaths inflicted by dogs, pit bulls contributed to 72% (33), over 16 times higher than the next closest known breeds: American bulldogs, German shepherds, Mastiff/bullmastiff and mixed-breeds, each involved in 2 deaths. Pit bulls make up about 6.2% of the total U.S. dog population.* Fatal dog attacks with partially or fully unreleased breed data grew to 13% (6 deaths).
