The internet is so rife with VPNs, mirrors, satellite host servers, and the like that I can't buy into this angle just yet.
Spoofing your IP address is done all the time -- scam artists who remote connect to computers run their own IP scramblers.
They could be hosting from the same place, sure; or they could just use the same reroute service to avoid intense trafficking and DDOS attacks. Both are a similar platform, in scope, so it's not surprising they may use the same service.
Is it weird? Oh, definitely. Worrisome? Eh, not yet...
I, personally, need to see some financial ties before I come to any conclusions.
