Taken together with the ANTIFA murder of a Trump supporter (also faked, IMO) that happened a day or two later, I suspect the theatrics were a failed op to get Americans to start shooting at each other. The Enemy was probably pissed when MAGA didn't violently respond to the summer of rioting, so they produced a slick wish fulfillment commercial where an everyday guy can suddenly become an action hero against big bad ANTIFA.
